The Commander, fixes his intense green gaze on you.
“We rarely eat the leaves,” he says, motioning to the entire strawberry you devoured whole.
A flush creeps across your cheeks. “Oh,” you say, realizing it’s best to keep whatever vision that just happened to yourself, especially from him.
While he said he doesn’t intend to poison you, you can’t risk being here any longer.
You’ve got to get back to your people. You need to find your blade and escape.
And it didn’t miss you that he entered without it.
“Something the matter?” His velvety voice is a deep rasp, beckoning you back to the present.
As he stands shirtless in front of you, you know he’s the most beautiful man you’ve ever seen.
You open your mouth, then snap it shut.
And it was strange. Mainly because where you’re from, gardens are only owned by those in high power- your Supreme leader being the main one.
And you’ve never even been through the gardens of the Great City back home.
It’s as if you were seeing through another’s eyes. Except you saw your blade.
You brush all that away and focus on what’s most important.
The Commander lights a fire in the hearth and lies on the floor at the foot of the bed.
“Go to bed,” he says gruffly. “There’s no escaping, y/n. I’m a light dreamer.”
You watch as he puts his weapon directly in front of him. It’s a longsword.
You fake a yawn, climb into the bed, and wait.
When his breathing evens out, you creep out of bed.
Lucky for you, you’re light on your feet.
He’s asleep.
You watch his face as the firelight casts shadows across it. A lock of his raven-colored hair falls over his forehead.
And then you notice his exposed ear. It’s pointed. Shock spears through you. How could you not have seen it before? Elven scum.
Holding your breath, you reach down soundlessly and grasp the hilt of his sword.
You put the sword under his chin in triumph. As the cool metal touches him, his green eyes flick open.
